ViaGen Urges Compliance With Moratorium On Sale of Food From Cloned Animals
ViaGen has been responsive to and supportive of the efforts of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to study and develop guidelines regarding food products derived from cloned animals and their progeny. We are pleased that the FDA has issued a Draft Risk Assessment that confirms that such food products are safe, and we recognize that the agency must take several additional steps, including the review of public comments, release of the final Risk Assessment, and the issuance of guidelines for industry, before it lifts the voluntary moratorium it has imposed on the sale of such food products.
ViaGen believes that the completion of the FDA¹s process, and industry compliance with the voluntary moratorium, are both essential to public confidence. ViaGen therefore urges food producers to comply with the voluntary moratorium while the FDA completes this process.
